A modern office for one of the UK’s leading mortgage brokers.
The latest addition to Bath’s liveliest co-working hub, Newark Works, is London & Country‘s (L&C) new office. Interaction had already transformed the common areas of the historic Newark Works alongside TCN, and now well aware of the building’s character and design features, we were perfectly placed to fit-out L&C’s new office.
Moving from their previous premises, Beazer House, some 20 years since the last office redesign, L&C were looking for a workspace that reflected their recent growth and modern outlook.
L&C left the design brief open to our interpretation, trusting our judgement to design and fit-out a workspace that felt professional and reflected the brand whilst also feeling relaxed and sociable.
We couldn’t be more grateful for the talent and expertise that went into every detail of our workspace. From concept to completion, this incredible team exceeded our expectations.

Making the office feel like home
A fresh look for mortgage brokers
L&C wanted their new office to feel more like a vibrant tech start-up than a traditional mortgage brokers. To achieve this we kept the space open plan, allowing the huge windows to flood the place with natural light, and made sure there was a homely feel about the office. Office doors are labelled with front door style numbers, and the entryway waiting space feels more like a living room than reception area thanks to the green velvet sofa and cream armchairs.
The building architecture of Newark Works has become a feature of the space, although this did throw up some challenges during the design and build process. We had to find a way to build around the beams without using them for structural reinforcement or adding weight. But these challenges were overcome and the final outcome allows the original beams to be celebrated as part of the design.
Community and collaboration are encouraged, with L&C employees now being able to choose between a teapoint in the office, or make use of Newark Works‘ larger social spaces which includes a table tennis table and bar. The L&C office now has a sociable buzz about it, with the Newark Works events helping to build relationships across the Bath business community.
Engaging with the team at Interaction was – and always has been – incredible. Throughout the entire process I found them professional, knowledgeable, organised and most of all… fun!

Offering complete flexibility to employees
Championing hybrid working
L&C are now a completely hybrid business, with the current work policy being one day in the office every two weeks. The new fully flexible approach offers freedom to staff and was a key consideration when designing the fit-out.
Hot-desks and hot-offices can be booked using an app that’s accessible anywhere, meaning L&C employees can plan their days in the office ahead of time knowing there will be desk ready and waiting for their day’s work.
The space features a selection of different workspaces to suit anyone’s preferred work environment – traditional desk areas with monitors, a high bench for collaborative work, and soft seating for relaxed meetings.
Design Features
Details that matter.
Moventi side tables made from recycled CDs add a sustainable touch of glitz to the space, and the front door style room numbers create a homely feel. Comfort marries perfectly with professionalism with the green velvet sofa styled with scatter cushions in L&C’s signature rust colour. A Koplus two-person meeting pod helps break up the office whilst filtering natural light through and acts as a great focussed work area for those that prefer quiet spaces. There is even L&C branded table tennis paddles ready for a game on the Newark Works table.
